maternal sepsis refers to sepsis occurring during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium. It encompasses a complicated clinical scenario due to the presence of an additional patient (the fetus) and significant pregnancy-related alterations in cardiorespiratory, immunological and metabolic functions.
