The public are at the heart of efforts to advance a culture of quality and safety across Canadian healthcare. Therefore, systems must be established to actively and meaningfully engage the Canadian public through different avenues such as advisory committees and public forums. Involvement in the structures and skills for engagement can be a powerful means to set and institutionalize a culture of quality within a health system.
