This alert discusses the importance of proper storage of Pradaxa®, dabigatran, in its original blister pack container. Pradaxa® is sensitive to humidity changes and becomes unstable when subjected to moisture in the air resulting in an incorrect dose available. Pradaxa® is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) used to prevent and treat blood clots. Improper dosing of blood-thinning drugs can be life-threatening as it increases the risk of bleeding or blood clots. The alert provides recommendations to mitigate the risk of wrong dosing of Pradaxa® as it relates to storage of the drug.
