When John Thompson was hospitalized, plans for a family gathering to celebrate 66 years of marriage to his wife Rhona had to be cancelled.
Wanting to do right by their patient, staff at Health Sciences North allowed the couple's daughter to bring the celebration to him, complete with white linens, carbonated fruit juice in champagne glasses, and a Swiss Chalet dinner. Although the celebration was much more intimate than originally planned, the happy couple was thrilled to be able to raise a glass and toast to their 66th wedding anniversary.
Stories like these speak to the human side of healthcare. They happen all the time but oftentimes we never hear about them. The Canadian Patient Safety Institute commends Health Sciences North, and all healthcare organizations, that go above and beyond for their patients.
