Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships and Priorities
In her senior executive role with the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI), Sandi Kossey, MHA, BScPT, CHE, leads national and international initiatives with governments, health system leaders, providers, patients, and families to improve the quality and safety of healthcare. Sandi is Director/Head of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre in Patient Safety and Patient Engagement. She supports the CPSI governing board's strategic planning functions and leads the Policy Impact and Strategic Networks and Alliances portfolios.
In November 2018, Sandi was honored with a legislative appointment to the Board of Directors of the Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA), a provincial organization with a legislated mandate to improve the quality and safety of healthcare services in Alberta. She serves as a board liaison with the HQCA Patient Family Advisory Committee.
Sandi led the establishment of the National Patient Safety Consortium, an innovative large-scale transformational change initiative which resulted in unprecedented collaboration, policy and practice change, and improved outcomes and experiences for patients and providers across Canada. Drawing from her compassionate nature as a healthcare provider, she has championed partnering with patients and families for healthcare improvement and is honored to support Patients for Patient Safety Canada, CPSI's patient-led program. In 2020, together with a patient partner, Sandi was awarded the Canadian College of Health Leaders' prestigious Celebrating the Human Spirit Award.
Sandi holds Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and Master of Health Administration degrees and is an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta School of Public Health. She also currently serves on the Board of the Northern Alberta Chapter of the Canadian College of Health Leaders and previously on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association's Leadership Division.
In her spare time, Sandi is active in her local community and loves creating masterpieces at home with cooking, baking, and gardening to share with her friends and family.
