Projects must have patient safety as a primary focus. Patient safety is defined as:
the reduction and mitigation of unsafe acts within the healthcare system rather than from the patient’s underlying illness, as well as through the use of best practices shown to improve patient safety outcomes. (Adapted from The Canadian Patient Safety Dictionary, October 2003
