On June 27, 2009, the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society held a Patient Safety Symposium in conjunction with its Annual General Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Symposium discussed Patient Safety: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
To highlight and support the efforts of CAS in advancing patient safety in anesthesia, the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) is providing the entire Symposium on the web. Following are summaries of the symposium proceedings and clickable links to hear the Introduction and presentations that followed.
Objectives:
- Summarize the evolution of the patient safety movement in anesthesia;
- Describe the role of the World Health Organization’s “Safe Surgery Saves Lives” initiative;
- Describe the process of how decisions are made by clinical experts and how machines may improve expert performance.
