Competition a chance for organizations to showcase their commitment to hand-hygiene excellence

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) has launched its inaugural Canadian Hand Hygiene Video Competition, in an effort to raise awareness amongst healthcare stakeholders of the need to be continuously focusing on hand-washing practices.

The contest, which the CPSI says was inspired by Brant Community Healthcare System’s “I Want to Wash My Hands,” a video parody of the Beatles’ song “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” is seeking video submissions from Canadian healthcare providers that promote hand-hygiene awareness and send the message to patients and healthcare providers that clean hands save lives.

“The competition is a chance for organizations to showcase their commitment to hand-hygiene excellence,” says CPSI communications officer Jason Thompson. “We are looking for creative and original video submissions from sites across Canada to promote and demonstrate effective hand washing.”

Ideal video submissions will:

  • Capture the essence of patient safety and quality improvement in Canada through the reduction of hospital acquired infections
  • Excite and inspire viewers to improve hand hygiene
  • Demonstrate optimal hand hygiene techniques
  • Showcase participation from as many groups or departments in your facility as possible

Submissions must be no longer than five minutes. Entries will be reviewed by the Safer Healthcare Now! Pan-Canadian Hand Hygiene Faculty.

The Canadian Hand Hygiene Faculty, a volunteer group collaboratively strategizing ways to urge optimal hand hygiene practices as an effective method of reducing healthcare associated infections, will serve as judges for the competition.

A prize will be awarded to the winning organization, which will be announced during Canada’s National Forum on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, held Oct. 31 to Nov. 4.

The deadline for submissions is Sept. 15.
