Apply for a 2013-14 Patient Safety Studentship Award

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute is providing four Patient Safety Studentship Awards for applied patient safety research. Each award will be a maximum of $5,000; applying organizations must provide matching funds to augment the studentship funding.  Projects with relevance to at least one of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute’s four clinical areas of foci (home care safety, surgical safety, medication safety and infection prevention and control) will be given priority; initiatives focused on issues that arise at transitions of care (for example between hospital and home care) are preferred.

“The Studentship Awards are designed to help increase student capacity in applied patient safety research,” says Kim Stelmacovich, Project Manager, Canadian Patient Safety Institute. ““The projects that are funded will generate  new ideas, tools, resources and educational content to achieve a transformation in patient safety.”

Canadian healthcare organizations and graduate students are encouraged to partner and apply for the studentships.  Eligible organizations include universities, colleges, health regions, hospitals, non-governmental and/or not-for-profit organizations.  Eligible graduate students include those in any field of health science, as well as other related disciplines (including psychology, sociology and/or human factors engineering) who are registered as full or part-time students during the period of the award.

Deadline for submissions for the 2013-2014 Patient Safety Studentships is October 15, 2013.  Successful studentships will be announced mid-November and funds will be awarded on December 1, 2013. The research must be completed by November 30, 2014.
