The Canadian Patient Safety Institute’s (CPSI) Board of Directors is pleased to advise that with fantastic assistance from senior leadership and consultation with stakeholders including Patients for Patient Safety Canada, it has successfully completed the recruitment of a new CEO to lead CPSI into the future with Patient Safety Forward with Four.
For the past eight years Chris Power has been the CEO for the Capital Health, Nova Scotia, with an annual operating budget of approximately $900 million, and 12,000 staff.
The CPSI Board is confident Chris is well positioned to lead CPSI with her solid relationships with CEOs and staff across the country as well as our government colleagues. Chris has a passion for quality, safe care that is evident in her leadership with the predominant goal –
“to make a difference in the lives of those I have the privilege to serve.”
Chris holds significant governance roles including Co-Chair of HealthCareCAN, Chair of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, Canadian Institutes of Health Research Governing Council, and Board Member of Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research,
Under Chris’s leadership Capital Health achieved Accreditation with Exemplary Status in 2014 with recognition for 10 Leading Practices. Chris is also involved in a number of collaboratives with the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement.
Most recently Chris participated as a member of the federal advisory panel on healthcare innovation and through this role has gained even greater insight into the many pan-Canadian organizations that will be beneficial in forming partnerships, leveraging expertise and advancing the goals of CPSI.
Chris is a nurse by training, has a Masters in Health Administration and is an Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University in the School of Health Administration and Nursing. Chris has also been a Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada, and Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, Public Sector Category.
CPSI would like to thank Hugh MacLeod for his outstanding leadership over the past five years and wish Hugh much success and relaxation as he moves to California to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Chris will begin her role as CEO starting on March 2, 2015. Maura Davies, will be acting CEO, to successfully transition CPSI to Chris’s leadership.
