Education alone cannot change healthcare systems or healthcare provider behaviours.  However, when combined with other strategies, a foundation of knowledge, skills and attitudes can be formed.  Education and training for patient safety should occur in an inter-professional environment within the workplace.  Programs should be based on adult learning principles with content based on and created to meet the needs of the learner, and include a robust evaluation strategy. CPSI is working with a diversity of partners to ensure integration of leading patient safety practices into education and training systems for undergraduate and practicing healthcare professionals across the continuum of care.  This role includes identification of leading practices, the development of safety competencies and promoting their integration into education and training programs.
