Senior Regional Director, Western Canada
In her role as Senior Regional Director, Sandi Kossey is responsible for coordinating strategic quality and patient safety activities while managing relationships with stakeholders and partners across Western Canada. Sandi also supports several of CPSI’s national programs including Global Patient Safety Alerts, Incident Analysis, and Patients for Patient Safety Canada.
Since joining CPSI in 2007, Sandi has led innovative and national initiatives to expand patient safety concepts and knowledge to areas outside of acute care settings, including; home care, long-term care, mental health, emergency medical services, and primary care. She was responsible for developing CPSI’s Effective Governance for Quality and Patient Safety Toolkit and providing support to the Health System Innovation Advisory Committee.
Sandi was formerly a senior manager responsible for group relations and organizational health with a provincial not-for-profit health and welfare trust in the Alberta education sector. She was a practicing physiotherapist for several years in a large academic teaching hospital in the areas of internal medicine, geriatrics, and nephrology in both clinical and supervisory roles. She moved into consulting and project management roles within the former Capital Health region (Edmonton and area) and worked in occupational health and safety, and later, regional and provincial stroke services.
Sandi is currently completing her master’s degree in health studies leadership and teaches patient safety curricula to graduate students at the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Alberta. Sandi is an avid gardener, despite the Alberta weather.
