Medication Reconciliation Lead, Canada
Marie Owen is CPSI’s medication reconciliation lead, Canada. Marie works closely with CEO Hugh MacLeod to create and drive a national strategy to ensure medication reconciliation is implemented across Canada in all sectors of the healthcare system. This work is being done in partnership with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices – Canada.
Prior to joining CPSI in 2008 as a director of operations with national responsibility for Safer Healthcare Now!, Marie was responsible for quality improvement and patient safety within a regional health authority in Alberta. She has worked in a number of acute care hospitals in Ontario and as a clinical nurse specialist in critical care in Edmonton. Additionally, she has worked as an educator, as well as in administration for a small rural facility.
Marie holds the role of surveyor for Accreditation Canada, conducting peer reviews of healthcare organizations across Canada. Her international work with Accreditation Canada has taken her to Ireland, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Marie graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Guelph, Ontario. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Alberta.
