
Maura Davies is the president and chief executive officer of the Saskatoon Health Region. Prior to that appointment, Maura was vice-president, Planning and Performance for Capital Health, Halifax. Maura has over 30 years experience in health care as a clinical dietician, educator and senior executive, including a leadership role in restructuring health services in Nova Scotia. Maura has Bachelor degrees in science and education, and a Masters degree in health services administration. She is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives and is a surveyor for the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation. Maura is a member of the board of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, and holds a part-time faculty appointment in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research interests include performance measurement of integrated health systems, organizational culture, and quality of work life. Maura Davies is a high profile, well respected and ardent advocate of patient safety in Canada, one of the strongest partners in quality improvement in Saskatchewan. Maura has been working diligently to create a culture of patient safety in her region. She has brought patient safety experts to educate her staff, broadcast the annual Halifax Symposium on Healthcare Safety throughout her region, identified physician champions, created a Quality Council within her region, and introduced indicators for system-wide performance that her Board can use to monitor quality.
